The sun our living star

Planetarium programme for interested children and young people aged 10 and over
The sun has been shining on our world for four and a half billion years. The light that warms our skin today has been felt by every human being who has ever lived.
It is our nearest star and the powerhouse of our planet, the source of the energy that drives our winds, our weather and all life.
The passage of the sun's fiery disc across the sky - day by day, month by month - has been the only way for countless past civilisations to keep track of time.
Don't let the terminology fool you; despite being a typical dwarf star, the Sun consumes 600 million tonnes of hydrogen per second and has 500 times the mass of all the planets combined.
Discover the secrets of our star in this planetarium presentation and experience never-before-seen images of the Sun's turbulent surface in stunning fulldome format.
