Lößnitz ground railway

Discover the Saxony steam railway route and stop off in Radebeul! The Lößnitzgrundbahn was the fourth Saxon narrow-gauge railway to start operating in September 1884. On the 16.6 km journey from Radebeul via Moritzburg to Radeburg, the "Lößnitzdackel", as the railway is affectionately known, passes eleven stations and crosses 19 bridges.

Right at the start of the journey through Radebeul, travellers are treated to a fascinating view of the vineyards before the train continues to meander through the picturesque Lößnitzgrund and the Moritzburg forest and pond landscape. The crossing of the Dippelsdorf pond over a 210 metre long embankment is particularly impressive. From Moritzburg station, the railway continues its journey across meadows and fields to its destination station in Radeburg.

In addition to the daily operation of the steam railway, special themed trips are also offered. During the "Weingenuss auf schmaler Spur" adventure tour, which takes place several times a year, passengers can savour Saxon wines and listen to interesting anecdotes about viticulture. Afterwards, a culinary winegrowers' buffet awaits them at the inn.

Other themed trips also take place on Easter Sunday, Ascension Day, St Nicholas' Day or at the start of the cycling season.

Tip:
Combine a trip on the Lößnitzgrundbahn with a cycle tour through the beautiful Elbland region. You can easily stow your bike in the cycle carriage and enjoy the scenery from the open viewing carriage.
