Sunrise in the afternoon - music by Haydn and Schubert

The Dresden String Quartet is one of the most prominent chamber music ensembles of the Saxon State Orchestra, successfully continuing the great Dresden chapel tradition of quartet playing. For more than 30 years, the four musicians - Thomas Meining, Barbara Meining, Andreas Schreiber and Martin Jungnickel - have been performing in their current line-up at national and international music centres. Invitations have taken them to the Berlin Philharmonie, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein and Rheingau Music Festivals, the international Schubertiades in Schnakenburg and regularly to the podium of the Semperoper. In addition to engagements in cultural metropolises such as Paris, Naples, Tokyo, Shanghai, St. Petersburg, Brussels and Lugano, the quartet has toured the USA in cities such as New York, Columbus, Richmond and Washington.

Their extensive repertoire ranges from quartets by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert to twentieth-century works for string quartet rarely heard on the concert platform, including works by Erwin Schulhoff, Astor Piazzolla, Alfred Schnittke and Arvo Pärt. The four musicians have worked on joint projects with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Peter Schreier, among others. They performed with Isabel Karajan at the Salzburg Easter Festival in 2015 and at Suntory Hall in Tokyo in autumn 2016. The ensemble is also a celebrated regular at the International Shostakovich Days in Gohrisch. Since 2015, the quartet has organised its own annual chamber music festival in the Allgäu region.

Single tickets in advance 20,00 €,
on the day of the event from 3 pm € 22.00 and pupils, trainees and students € 10.00

The price includes the opportunity to visit the Saxon Wine Museum on the day of the concert as well as a glass of sparkling wine from the Hoflößnitz or optionally a non-alcoholic drink, which will be served from 1 hour before the concert. All prices include 7 % VAT.

Admission is from 30 minutes before the concert begins.
