Mein Kinderland - concert reading by and with Gerhard Schöne

Since the release of his first record in 1981, whose title »Spar deinen Wein nicht auf für morgen« (Don't save your wine for tomorrow«) fits perfectly with the Hoflößnitz venue, Gerhard Schöne, born in Coswig in 1952, has been a singer-songwriter as his main profession. Countless songs for adults and children show him to be an idiosyncratic poet and storyteller, whose stories just seem to bubble out of his pen.

In »Mein Kinderland« Schöne recalled his early childhood and youth, this time in prose - initially for his own children. Ten years ago, this became his second book. When he reads from it, his guitar and songs are of course a must. So you can look forward to an exciting and funny, thought-provoking and entertaining concert reading in the best - double - sense of the word.

»The stories 'from the past' that I have written down are nothing special«, writes Gerhard Schöne in the foreword. »I experienced them in the vicarage of a small town near Dresden, at school, in my gang, in the cemetery, in the circus and in church. The war had ended about ten years earlier. Our country was divided. Our teachers said we lived in the better part of the country. Our parents shook their heads at this. I had no idea about anything and wanted to get to know everything.«

In the 45 years of his professional musical career to date, Schöne has released over 40 records and CDs and has been honoured with numerous awards, including the GDR National Prize in 1989, the »Bible and Culture« Foundation Prize in 1996, the Leo Kestenberg Medal in 2002, the German Music Authors' Prize in 2012 and the Saxon Music Council Prize in 2016. He has given concerts and guest performances in Switzerland, the USA, Sweden, Poland, Brazil, Italy, Nicaragua, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Namibia, Luxembourg and Austria. Gerhard Schöne is a UNICEF ambassador and ambassador of the Verbundnetz der Wärme. Today he lives near Meißen, together with many musical instruments, guests and animals.
