Hike through the Niederlößnitz
The starting point of your walk is the Landesbühnen Sachsen theatre, located at the tram stop for tram line 4 "Landesbühnen Sachsen".
Walk up Schuchstraße and turn left into Paradiesstraße at the next junction. Follow this street past smaller and larger properties, some of which greet you with Mediterranean charm.
At the end of Paradiesstraße, you will cross Lößnitzgrundstraße. On the right-hand side you will see the Grundhof, an old vineyard. The main building with its large hipped roof was built in the second half of the 17th century. In 1801, a garden hall with a ridge turret and two pavilions were added. The garden hall became a studio for painters such as Wilhelm Claus, Karl Kröner and today Gunter Herrmann.
Continue along the narrowing Paradiesstraße and turn right at the end, following the curve of the road to the left. After approx. 100 metres, turn left onto the hiking trail "Auf den Bergen".
On your right, you will see the "Paradies" vineyard, which is managed by the Schloss Wackerbarth state winery. Following the path uphill, you will have many charming views before you reach the hill. Halfway up, you can take a break at the "Paradiesberg" wine tavern and fortify yourself with Saxon wine and a small snack. At the top, turn left and follow the Höhenweg, cross Obere Burgstraße and continue along the high vineyard walls towards the water tower.
The water tower was built according to plans by architects Richard Müller and Richard Schleinitz and has characterised the silhouette of the Lößnitzberge mountains ever since, visible from afar. French prisoners of war were also involved in the construction in 1916/17, which is why the name "Franzosenturm" was coined.
On the left-hand side of the viewpoint you will see Friedensburg Castle, which was originally built as a vineyard house in the 17th century. The Ziller brothers converted it into a catering establishment in 1869. A variety of structural alterations gave Friedensburg Castle the character of a hilltop castle and it now dominates the town of Lößnitz. Today, the estate is used privately.
Now you can continue your walk downhill along the well-maintained hiking trail and reach the forest park. In the northern part of the park is "Schwarzes Teich", where the Radebeul choirs organise an annual Whitsun singing festival.
A flight of steps in the south-western section takes you to Moritzburger Straße, where you return to Meißner Straße.
The path takes you past the Mohrenhaus, a former 19th century manor house with a three-hectare park, which is now run as an open children's and youth centre by the German Child Protection Association. The house was extensively renovated in 2007 to preserve it as a historical monument. A visit to the park is particularly worthwhile for our little hikers.
Continuing downhill along Moritzburger Straße, you will reach the former Bussard sparkling wine cellars. It was founded in 1836 as a "factory for sparkling wines", from 1897 it traded as "Sektkellerei Bussard" (sparkling wine production using the "Rüttelverfahren").
The hike ends on Meißner Straße at the stops on tram line 4 with connections to Dresden or Weinböhla or at Radebeul-Kötzschenbroda station with connections to the S-Bahn S1 in the direction of Dresden or Meißen.
