Members of the design forum

The constituent and first regular meeting of the Design Forum took place on 15 March 2022.

In accordance with the rules of procedure, four voting members were appointed by Lord Mayor Bert Wendsche at the suggestion of the First Mayor after consultation with the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning (DASL) and one voting member at the suggestion of the Verein für denkmalpflege und neues bauen radebeul e.v. (Association for the Preservation of Monuments and New Building).

The chairman of the design forum is Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Martin zur Nedden.

Other members with voting rights are: Prof. Dr h.c. Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Albrecht (Deputy Chairman), Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Henke, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Angela Mensing-de Jong and Dipl.-Ing. Heike Roos

  • Thomas Albrecht

Thomas Albrecht, architect in Berlin, born in 1960, studied at the Technical University of Munich and at IIT Chicago. Since 1986 he has worked for Hilmer Sattler, later Hilmer Sattler Albrecht, and has been a partner since 1993. Important projects: Picasso Museum Berggruen in Berlin, Picasso Museum Münster, Museum Barberini for Hasso Plattner in Potsdam, Berlin Palace in collaboration with Franco Stella, numerous other museum and residential buildings, hotels, as well as urban planning projects; Three-time winner of the German Natural Stone Award, lecturer and jury member; lecturer in Newcastle upon Tyne and Florence, honorary doctorate from Northumbria University Newcastle, member of the Leipzig and Halle design advisory boards, board member of the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museumsverein in Berlin, active choir singer (bass 2).

Rainer Henke, architect in Dresden, born in 1971, studied at the TU Dresden, previously trained as a wooden model maker, freelance work in several Dresden architectural offices, with his own office since 2005. Representative on the design forum at the suggestion of the radebeul association for the preservation of historical monuments and new building.

  • Angela Mensing-de Jong

Angela Mensing-de Jong, architect, studied at the TU Darmstadt, worked in the offices of Gwathmey Siegel, New York, and Bangert Scholz Architekten, Berlin, 1993-1998 research assistant at the TU Berlin, specialising in urban design,1993-1999 Office for Architecture and Urban Design with Sergio Cantón in Berlin, 1998 Visiting Professor of Design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, since 2000 architect in Dresden, 2000-2018 Professor of Design and Urban Planning at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences, since 2018 Professor of Urban Design at the TU Dresden, member of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning, the Saxon Academy of Arts and numerous design councils, including in Potsdam, Bamberg, Bamberg and Berlin. including in Potsdam, Bamberg and Leipzig. She regularly lectures and publishes in Germany and abroad.

Martin zur Nedden, urban planner, studied spatial planning at the Vienna University of Technology. Planning experience in several German cities, 2006-2013 Councillor for Urban Development and Construction in Leipzig. Head of the German Institute of Urban Affairs from 2013 to 2018. Since then, consultant on urban development and planning. Honorary professor for urban development and regional planning at HTWK Leipzig. Member of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning (President 2013-2015), Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Saxon Architects Foundation, Chairman of the Programme Advisory Board of the Centre for Building Culture Saxony (ZfBk). Numerous publications, extensive lecturing activities at home and abroad.

Heike Roos, landscape architect and urban planner in Weimar, born 1967, studied urban planning until 1992 at the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering Weimar, in parallel special study programme at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, Department of Landscape Architecture. Since 1996 with her own office specialising in structural and object planning in the fields of open space, landscape, transport and urban planning, mainly in the federal states of Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt for public and private clients. Specialist judge since 2000 in Germany and Europe. Numerous competition successes and awards, recognised at the Thuringia Building Culture Prize and the Thuringia Landscape Architecture Prize. Member of the Association of German Landscape Architects (since 1995), member of the founding group Baukultur on the way to the Bundesstiftung Baukultur (2002), member of the board of trustees of the Stiftung Baukultur Thüringen (2003-2006), member of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning (since 2003), member of the steering committee of the IBA Stadtumbau Sachsen-Anhalt (2008-2010), board member of the Thuringian Chamber of Architects (since 2008, vice president 2013-2018). Numerous experiences as a member of design advisory boards (since 2012), extensive lecturing activities.

In accordance with the rules of procedure, the following are appointed as permanent non-voting members:

- the First Mayor and Councillor for Urban Development and Construction: Dr Jörg Müller (architect and urban planner)
- two experts from the citizens of Radebeul who are involved in urban development issues (not from the city council / city administration) and were proposed by the Verein für denkmalpflege und neues bauen radebeul e.V.: Dr Grit Heinrich (landscape architect) and Dr Klaus Löschner (architect).

Other members of the full-time administration can be consulted by the First Mayor in an advisory capacity if required.
