Otto Baer paint factory, Meißner Straße 116
In 1870, Dr Theodor Klotzsch founded a letterpress ink factory with an associated carbon black and varnish production facility - the first industrial enterprise in Serkowitz. He had a factory building with a steam boiler constructed for this purpose. He produced black and, from 1875, also coloured printing inks and printing auxiliaries. At the same time, he benefited from the upswing in the graphic arts industry.
The company was later taken over by Johann Nepomuk Otto Baer and also traded under this name. The company, which remained family-owned for decades, was known for its exemplary social standards. By the time of the Second World War, which forced a severe reduction in production, the number of employees had risen to 250.....
