Geocaching - The somewhat different city tour

"Mum, when will we finally be there?...

Would you like to enjoy a relaxing holiday as a parent and see a bit of the city? No problem. Why don't you turn it into a game?

Grab a piece of paper and a pen, install a new app on the kids' smartphones and off you go on a modern scavenger hunt. The whole thing is called geocaching and was "invented" in the USA in 2000.

The aim is to find small hiding places, known as caches, using coordinates. These are usually small boxes that are hidden out of sight from so-called muggles (in this case, not non-magicians, but unsuspecting non-cachers).

In the simplest case, a tin is searched for at known coordinates. But the variant that is best suited to exploring unknown terrain is the so-called "Multi-Caches". Here, several tasks have to be solved. This motivates even the youngest children, who like to hike from one interesting place to another with the help of adults, as the solution to the puzzle can only be found there.

The range is wide and extends from a few metres to longer hikes.

Well hidden from the eyes of muggles, Radebeul is home to a variety of different caches. For example, there is a whole series on all the historic town centres, a slightly different pub crawl or interesting facts about Radebeul's industrial history.

So get started and teach your children something about Radebeul without them realising it. All you need is free registration with an online portal and a free app for your smartphone.

Your Tourist Information team wishes you lots of fun!
