In the pulse
Dance evening by Natalie Wagner
Music by Nikolaus Woernle | world premiere
This dance evening embarks on an exciting search for the unconscious, natural rhythm of life that pulsates through our veins and for the sources of our human driving forces, which aim to satisfy our basic needs - our desire for social closeness and security. The evening responds to the current social trend in our highly specialised civilisation to place individual self-realisation, our ego, at the forefront of all our actions with dance impulses in the form of rituals, which have always increased the human sense of togetherness, but are currently in danger of being lost more and more. Traditional rituals, which provide stability, thrive on repetition and differ from routines in the intensity of human encounters. Natalie Wagner is interested in this intensity when she and her dancers embark on the trail of ritual processes that are about elementary things, peaceful togetherness and mindfulness, attention to the essentials, the perception of even small gestures - in other words, a return to simplicity, although it is well known that simplicity is not easy to come by.
However, dance in particular seems to her to be the perfect way to give moving expression to the constant renewal of life, breath by breath. And where, if not in the theatre, which originally arose from cultic interactions, should we invite people to philosophise about the meaning of rituals? A dance piece fuelled by the common urge for life, rhythm and vitality.
Following the performance on 8 February 2025, we cordially invite you to an audience discussion.
