Broadband expansion - fast Internet via fibre optics!

For many citizens and companies in the city of Radebeul, a powerful and reliable internet connection is just as important today as a connection to the electricity, water or gas network. Broadband coverage that is as comprehensive as possible is a prerequisite for utilising the potential of the digital transformation, but also an essential prerequisite for maintaining the quality of life and location locally in the future.

In a separate market exploration procedure (MEV) of the district, the download bandwidths in megabits per second (Mbit/s) at the respective properties (residential and commercial addresses) were therefore reported in 2019 and 2021 by the telecommunications companies currently supplying them.

The expansion of the broadband supply is generally carried out by the telecommunications companies themselves; in the town of Radebeul, this is largely carried out by Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone.

On the other hand, the expansion in areas that fall below a download threshold of currently 30 Mbit/s is currently being carried out as part of a federal funding programme with co-financing from the Free State, the so-called "white spots" programme. The district is responsible for coordinating this programme. All owners of the properties affected by the funding programme were informed of the planned expansion in advance.

The "grey spots" programme was later launched as a further funding programme. This programme covers the expansion of properties with an adjacent download of 30-100 Mbit/s. The call for tenders and the EU award competition for this subsidised project are still ongoing. Only then can a time horizon be specified for the expansion by the telecommunications company then carrying out the project.

In the town of Radebeul, some streets are included in both subsidised projects, such as Kleine Rietzschke, Rietzschkegrund, Kieferbruch, Kreyernweg, Auernweg, etc. The time discrepancy between the two funding projects is understandably causing incomprehension among residents, but the district and the telecommunications companies carrying out the work are strictly bound by the funding guidelines.

Due to the current construction measures for the subsidised or self-business broadband expansion, there are a large number of enquiries from citizens, the diversity of which can only be inadequately explained by press releases, official gazettes, information sheets from the telecoms companies carrying out the expansion, etc. These enquiries can, for example, relate to the expansion of the broadband network.

These can be, for example, enquiries about detection thresholds for white, light grey and dark grey areas as well as commercial locations, discrepancies between market exploration procedures and actual measured bandwidth, properties with cable ducts, permission agreements, new buildings, (ineligible) garden sheds or addresses that have already been connected several times by fibre optic or coaxial cable and are not eligible for funding, etc.

Due to the complexity of these special enquiries regarding broadband expansion, we only accept written communication by email to:
