Circular route 2 - Lößnitzgrund
Follow the narrow path at the Hotel "Goldener Anker" straight ahead to Altkötzschenbroda (see description of circular route 1), follow Bahnhofstraße until you reach a junction with traffic lights, cross this and follow Moritzburger Straße uphill. After the slight bend in Moritzburger Straße and a further ascent, you have the option of making a detour to our public observatory (see description of circular route 1) or continuing straight on uphill until you pass the forest park and reach the Sonnenleite junction.
Here you can continue straight on to Moritzburg or continue on circular route 2 by turning right and after approx. 100 metres turn right again onto Kiesgrubenweg. This shady path will certainly do you good after the exertions of the ascent. At the end of the gravel pit path, turn right. At the next fork in the path, you have the option of taking a detour in the direction of Friedensburg and the water tower. To do this, turn right into Obere Burgstraße.
Friedensburg Castle was originally a vineyard house from the 17th century. It was converted into a catering facility in 1869 by the Ziller brothers. A variety of structural alterations gave it the character of a hilltop castle and it now dominates the town of Lößnitz. Formerly a popular restaurant, the Friedensburg is now privately owned. The water tower in the immediate vicinity of Friedensburg Castle was built between 1916 and 1917 by French prisoners of war according to plans drawn up by the building councillor Schleinitz.
Continue on circular route 2 by turning left into Buchholzweg and continue straight ahead until you reach Meiereiweg, which you turn right into and follow downhill. After approx. 200 metres you will reach the Bilzbad, named after Friedrich Edurad Bilz, the well-known naturopath. He created this bath in 1905 as a light, air and sun bath. The outdoor pool is idyllically situated in the forest. A special attraction is the UNDOSA wave machine. Here you will feel like you are at the seaside in the large, powerful waves that thrill you every hour.
If you have taken a break and refreshed yourself in the cool water, continue downhill to the tracks of the narrow-gauge railway with a view of the Bilz guesthouse. Before the railway tracks, turn right into the Lößnitzgrund. Here you can take a short break in the beer garden "Zur Meierei". With a bit of luck, our puffing "Lößnitzdackel" will meet you or follow you on your way. For completely exhausted cyclists, there is the option of cycling from the "Meierei" stop to Radebeul or Moritzburg.
Shortly before the path climbs again, turn left into a forest path, cross the railway tracks and Lößnitzgrundstraße and turn into the forest path. Ride or push your bike uphill there. At the top, you will see typical vineyard slopes on your left where the Radebeul wine matures.
Continue straight ahead, following Lößnitzgrundstraße downhill until you reach a crossroads. Here you can continue on circular route 2 or join circular route 3. Before you decide, however, take the opportunity to climb the stairs on your left and pay a visit to the Hoflößnitz Winery Museum. The Hoflößnitz today comprises buildings from different periods of origin, the press house, the pleasure and mountain house, the winegrower's house and the cavalier's house, which you should definitely visit as part of a guided tour of the museum. The museum and wine shop offers wines from the Hoflößnitz winery and other producers in the Elbe Valley by the glass and for sale.
Following circular route 2, turn right at the crossroads, cross the tracks of the narrow-gauge railway again and then turn left uphill. At the top, cross Paradiesstraße and Winzerstraße and continue downhill until you reach Meißner Straße. Turn right here and you will reach the Landesbühnen Sachsen theatre. In the main theatre in Radebeul, the Landesbühnen offer a varied and high-quality programme as a multi-genre theatre. The audience can choose from all theatre genres - from opera and operetta to musicals, concerts, plays and ballet.
Now cross the road at the traffic lights and follow Weintraubenstraße until it turns right, cross the tunnel and you can then use the cycle path on the left until the road ends. At the petrol station, turn right and after approx. 150 m turn left and you will reach the Elbe cycle path. From here you can continue your journey to Dresden or Meißen.
