Sick chestnut trees must be felled

09.04.2021

In the coming week, 11 diseased chestnut trees "Am Goldenen Wagen" and "Hoflößnitzstraße" will be felled at short notice.

In the official gazette 02/2021, the necessary felling measures "Am Goldenen Wagen" were already pointed out. Of the trees to be felled, two young trees showed black, weeping discolouration on the trunk. This was a bacterial infection with Pseudomonas syringae. This bacterium gradually leads to the death of the tree.

During an additional site inspection, these symptoms were found on other chestnut trees on "Am Goldenen Wagen" and "Hoflößnitzstraße". In order to prevent the spread of the bacterium, a total of 11 further young chestnut trees planted in 2006 and 2013 must be felled immediately. This urgent measure was approved by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority and the monument protection authorities.
