Astronomical observations in the 21st century
Event for secondary schools and grammar schools
400 years ago, Galileo was the first person to look at the sky with a telescope. Since then, telescopes have become more and more powerful and have constantly expanded our view of the universe.
Today, astronomers already have gigantic instruments at their disposal. But the planned giant telescopes will far surpass today's mirrors. Europe is planning to build the E - ELT with an incredible 39 metre mirror diameter by 2022. What technologies will be used in the new giant telescope and what exciting discoveries can we expect from such telescopes?
