From the Eagle Nebula to the black hole

Event for young people and adults

Stars are formed in gigantic molecular clouds. One such star-forming region is the Eagle Nebula in the constellation of the Snake. How a star develops, what life expectancy it has and what its end looks like depends crucially on its mass. Our sun will have become a white dwarf in around 5 billion years. Some stars are much larger. Dramatic events take place at their end. For example, the result of a supernova explosion is a neutron star or a black hole. The programme tells of the life cycles of stars, but also of the ingenious photo that scientists managed to take of the supermassive black hole at the centre of the galaxy M87.
