Lord Mayor Bert Wendsche and Building Mayor Dr Jörg Müller are delighted: after their summer holiday, they received the long-awaited funding decision from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media for the new reception building of the Karl May Museum.

As requested and discussed for years, €2.744 million was approved as a fixed amount grant from the federal government.

"Together with the funding of € 2.7 million from the Free State of Saxony (SMWK), which has been available since the end of last year, and the budgeted share of the city of Radebeul (€ 1.0 million), the overall financing of the new building project is thus secured," says Mayor Bert Wendsche happily. And Mayor of Construction Dr Jörg Müller adds: "The Europe-wide tendering process for further planning services can now be finalised so that the architects can probably be commissioned with the next steps this month."

The signals are therefore "green" for the municipal building department, which is looking forward to the challenging and unusual task of building a new museum together with its team.

Last autumn, the city of Radebeul took over the building project, including the associated land, from the Karl May Foundation and has since acted as the client.

After completion, the Karl May Museum gGmbH will be the operator, in which the city of Radebeul will hold a stake of just over 25 per cent. The remaining shares will be held by the Karl May Foundation.

Thanks to the close co-operation between the Karl May Foundation and the town of Radebeul, Karl May's legacy can be preserved and developed in a contemporary way against the backdrop of his national significance.
