Poster campaign against domestic violence in Radebeul

19.06.2024

What looks like love can be control...

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the counselling centre against domestic violence and stalking would like to break new ground with a poster campaign to draw attention to the fact that domestic violence is still part of everyday life for many people in the district of Meißen.

Three employees work at the Counselling and Intervention Centre (BIS) against domestic violence and stalking. The BIS is one of three projects run by SkF e.V Radebeul, which was founded in 1991. The association is committed to helping disadvantaged people, especially those affected by domestic violence and their children, in Radebeul and the surrounding area.

In 2023, the counselling centre advised 273 victims. These included 25 children and young people who had witnessed violence between their parents. Of the 248 adults affected, 232 were women who had experienced violence from their husband, partner or ex-partner. Most of the cases involved psychological violence, sometimes in combination with physical violence, but also economic violence and stalking. In the reporting year 2022, police crime statistics recorded 157,818 victims of intimate partner violence in Germany, which corresponds to an increase of almost 10 per cent (source: BKA 2023). Even though more and more people are seeking help, intimate partner violence is still a taboo subject and is strongly characterised by a dynamic of silence and isolation. It is known that only a fraction of those affected reach the help system.

Until 1 July 2024, more than 30 large billboards and around 20 city light posters from Ströer in the district of Meißen will be on display on this topic.
