On Friday, 20 October 2023, the city of Radebeul and Deutsche Bahn AG officially opened the new road bridge after the Schiffsmühle to traffic. After around one and a half years, the structure, for which the ground-breaking ceremony took place in April 2022, will thus go into operation on time. Remaining work will be completed over the next few weeks. Until 2026, compensatory measures will be carried out in accordance with the landscape conservation plan.

The new crossing-free road bridge Nach der Schiffsmühle, which has a length of 126.80 metres and a width of 11.85 metres, crosses the railway facilities of Deutsche Bahn AG and a connecting track.

of Deutsche Bahn AG and a railway siding of ThyssenKrupp AG between Friedrich-List-Straße and Meißner Straße. The new road has two lanes, each 3.75 metres wide, with an integrated protective strip for cyclists on both sides, each 1.50 metres wide. In addition, there is a 2.50 m wide public footpath on one side and a 1.00 m wide emergency footpath on the opposite side of the bridge.

The project was financed by federal and state funds as well as funds from

Deutsche Bahn AG and municipal funds from the towns of Radebeul and Coswig. After deducting the 70% subsidy from the Free State of Saxony, including the contribution from the town of Coswig, the town of Radebeul's own share of the costs amounts to around € 1.2 million.

Mayor Bert Wendsche is delighted: "The new road provides us with a very good connection to the Radebeul-Naundorf/Coswig-Kötitz industrial estate south of the railway line with Meißner Straße north of the railway line. In addition, we can effectively relieve the residential areas in the Naundorf district in the area of Kötitzer Straße from commercial traffic."

The old Nach der Schiffsmühle road, which led over several gated railway crossings, will thus be replaced.

"When the Elbe burst its banks in 2002, this road was the only flood-proof connection for the companies in the industrial estate. However, due to the diverted train traffic, the barriers no longer went up at all", recalled the Lord Mayor of Radebeul. "With the new road bridge, we are now also equipped for a disaster, for example to be able to bring the necessary technology into the area," added Bert Wendsche.
