Radebeul scores with its cultural concept - federal government gives €110,000 for Radebeul's cultural summer 2021

11.06.2021

In spring 2021, the German Federal Cultural Foundation launched the Kultursommer 2021 funding programme at short notice in order to give artists opportunities to perform again and to open up prospects for the cultural and event industry. 30 million euros were made available nationwide from the "Neustart Kultur" rescue and future programme.

The City of Radebeul's Department of Culture seized the opportunity and successfully applied with a concept for cultural revitalisation. The summer programme with street theatre, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, performances and much more is intended to offer local and regional freelance artists from all disciplines a platform and promote new perspectives in the urban space. Radebeul was thus able to score points with the jury of the Cultural Foundation, which granted the city a grant of €110,000. Mayor Wendsche is delighted: "This is great news! Now we can combat the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in culture, in the catering industry and in city life as a whole all the more effectively. We want to restore a vibrant urban space as quickly as possible. The cooperation with the neighbouring municipalities of Meißen, Coswig and Riesa, which will be intensified by the joint application, is also particularly pleasing." Thanks go to the district of Meißen, which submitted the application to the Federal Cultural Foundation and received a total of €336,000 for the four municipalities involved.

For those responsible for culture in the towns of Radebeul and Meißen, the 2021 cultural summer is an important kick-off project for a new quality of cooperation. The declared aim is to showcase what makes both cities and the region so culturally unique.
