New camping pitches in Radebeul

25.06.2021

  • Winfried Lehmann (2. Bürgermeister), Michael Karlshaus (Geschäftsführer), Bert Wendsche (Oberbürgermeister) und Titus Reine (Geschäfstführer) weihen die neuen Stellplätze ein.

Friedrich Eduard Bilz, the world-famous naturopath from Radebeul, was already pursuing the idea of relaxation for body and mind at the beginning of the 20th century and, in addition to his sanatorium, opened the Licht-Luft-Bad, now the Bilzbad, in Radebeul in 1905. The facilities on offer at the time included a large water pool, a sand bath, sports activities such as the use of a football pitch or a bowling alley and the Licht-Luft huts. In 1912, the bell of the UNDOSA wave machine rang the wave pool for the first time and the town of Radebeul would be unthinkable without it to this day.
In June 2020, Stadtbäder und Freizeitanlagen GmbH Radebeul, the current operator of the Bilzbad, opened the Bilz campsite with over forty tent pitches and twenty pitches for motorhomes and caravans. "We are delighted to have created a beautiful place for our guests from all over Germany and neighbouring countries to relax and unwind, in keeping with the Bilz concept," says Titus Reime, Managing Director of Stadtbäder und Freizeitanlagen GmbH Radebeul. Around 900 campers visited the newly created site in 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for holiday offers in Germany and travelling with caravans and camper vans has risen sharply. Stadtbäder und Freizeitanlagen GmbH Radebeul wanted to meet this demand and began construction work to expand the campsite in autumn 2020. A total of €50,000 was invested in expanding and landscaping around 3,500 square metres of construction area. On 23 June 2021 at 14:00, Mayor Bert Wendsche, Second Mayor Winfried Lehmann and Managing Directors Titus Reime and Michael Karlshaus opened the new Bilz-Camping site. Twenty new pitches can now be rented by tourists from the town of Radebeul. There are also two new sanitary containers as well as electricity and water connections at each pitch. Bilz-Camping now has a total of forty tent pitches and forty caravan pitches.
The idea of Friedrich Eduard Bilz at the time of industrialisation to create an offer in nature, which served the population at that time as a break from the daily stress of work, is continued by the Bilzbad and the new pitches on the campsite. Motorhomes are the modern form of the light and air huts of that time. A short trip or a relaxing holiday at the Bilz campsite in culturally rich Radebeul is just the thing to create a balance to everyday life.
