Over the Whitsun weekend, additional trains with more space will be travelling in the direction of Saxon Switzerland and the Eastern Ore Mountains. "In addition to the extra trains, many S-Bahn trains will be travelling with a fifth carriage," says Lutz Auerbach, Head of the Transport Department at Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO). "On Saturday, the Saxonia Express also runs directly from Leipzig via Dresden to Schöna." The WanderExpress is in operation for excursions to the Eastern Ore Mountains and increases capacity on the Müglitz Valley railway.

On Saturday, the Saxonia Express leaves Leipzig at 8.00 a.m., arrives at Dresden Central Station at 9.33 a.m. and then travels to Schöna with stops in Pirna, Stadt Wehlen, Kurort Rathen, Königstein, Bad Schandau and Schmilka. The return journey departs from there at 4.22 pm.

On Whit Sunday and Whit Monday, the Dresden S-Bahn will be running additional trains between Dresden Central Station and Schöna. One train will travel up the Elbe at 9.50 am and the second will depart at 10.20 am. Travellers can also return to Dresden on the additional trains. One train leaves Schöna at 4.22 p.m., the second train departs at 4.42 p.m. in the direction of the state capital. "The additional trains are particularly suitable for passengers with bicycles, as they are not quite as full as the regular S-Bahn trains," says Lutz Auerbach.

The WanderExpress RE 19 of the Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (MRB) runs for direct journeys to the Osterzgebirge. The train departs from Dresden Central Station at 10.05 am throughout the Whitsun weekend and arrives in Altenberg at 11.11 am. The return journey departs Altenberg at 5.18 pm and arrives back in the state capital at 6.23 pm. The express train provides additional seats in the Müglitz Valley.
