  • Forsstraße Fertigstellung April 2020

On Thursday, 30 April 2020, after a construction period of around one year, the roadworks on the fundamentally upgraded Forststraße / Seestraße between Meißner Straße and Gartenstraße were opened to traffic.

In addition to improving the dilapidated traffic system, the main aim of the measure was to create an unrestricted clearance height under the railway overpass and thus a direct lorry connection between Meißner Straße and the commercial locations in Radebeul Ost in the area of the surrounding streets (including Gartenstraße).

Strabag AG from Meißen was commissioned with the construction work.

The previously uneven paved carriageway of Forststraße was widened to 6.50 m and given a new asphalt surface.
The pavements were also widened to 2.50 m and 2.00 m respectively and paved with concrete.
The road drainage was renewed.
The junction of Forststraße / Emilienstraße / Seestraße was redesigned so that the new main road routing via Forststraße / Emilienstraße is more clearly recognisable and therefore safer for traffic.
A 1.50 metre wide protective strip for cyclists was created on Forststraße in a northerly direction.
In addition, the combined sewer in the road was renovated on behalf of WAB R+C GmbH.

In order to achieve the required clearance height under the railway overpass, the northern access ramp of Forststraße had to be lowered considerably over a length of approx. 75 metres. This required the construction of retaining walls on both sides of the road. In the course of lowering the road, almost all of the supply and disposal pipes in this area, including the combined sewer, had to be lowered and rearranged. Considerable expenses were caused by old sewers from former commercial operations, some of which were unknown and had to be dismantled.

Thanks to the commitment of the construction company, the project was nevertheless completed on schedule despite the increased expenditure for the media relocations and the current tense situation.

All construction work was awarded following a public tender for around € 2.1 million, with the city's share totalling around € 1.5 million.
In addition to the city's own funds, an 85% grant was obtained as project funding for the improvement of business-related infrastructure (GRW - Infra).
This construction project is co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the members of the Saxon state parliament.

Lord Mayor Bert Wendsche is also pleased about the completion of the construction work: "A very big thank you is due to the understanding of the neighbouring businesses for the unfortunately unavoidable restrictions in accessibility caused by the construction work."

Following very constructive advice, which was intended to enable practicable restricted accessibility and at the same time relatively unhindered construction, joint solutions were found and implemented. As with many construction sites, there was direct communication between the construction company and the local residents on a daily basis, which is definitely worthy of praise.

As a result, a further section of the municipal roads can now be opened for general use, significantly improving road safety for all participants.
