New Year's reception

Yesterday evening saw the traditional New Year's reception hosted by Lord Mayor Bert Wendsche at the Landesbühnen Sachsen theatre. Around 320 guests, including representatives from the worlds of politics, business, culture, education and community life, attended.

Pupils from the Meißen district music school opened the evening with the first movement of Francis Poulenc's Sonata for Flute and Piano.

Volunteers in the field of sport were then honoured. Uwe Center (Radebeul handball club), Elke Hofmann (Radebeul badminton club), Dietmar Kunze (athletics department of SSV Planeta Radebeul), Hubert Peche (Radebeul fencing club) were honoured, Jana Schiller (canoeing department of SSV Planeta Radebeul), Frank Sickert (orienteering department of SSV Planeta Radebeul), Stefan Singer (SSV Planeta Radebeul) and Karsten Wieland (BSV Chemie Radebeul). Without their dedicated and selfless work, often in the background, many of the activities organised by sports clubs would not be possible.
The stage programme continued in a sporting, or rather acrobatic, vein with seven performers from the SANRO children's and youth circus. The children and young people delighted the audience with their artistic skills as well as their humour and clowning. After the mayor's New Year's speech, which can also be downloaded from the Internet, the Saxon State Theatre and the Elbland Philharmonic Orchestra performed excerpts from "Fidelio" and the "Nutcracker".

Many guests used the time to chat until midnight.
