Kick-off workshop "It tastes good for EVERYONE!" - The town of Radebeul takes a close look at the catering situation together with its daycare centres and the SLfG

The cookery kitchen at the Naundorf children's centre in Radebeul cooks a fresh lunch every day for all five municipal daycare centres. Breakfast and a snack are also provided for all children.

A balanced and healthy diet in childhood is of great importance, not least because it is during this time that taste and eating behaviour are formed for life. A varied and high-quality diet at home and in daycare centres is a prerequisite for this.

To ensure that good quality daycare centre catering can be maintained and established in the long term, the Radebeul city council, as the daycare centre provider, wants to take a conscious look at the catering situation. In a two-year cooperation project with the Saxon State Association for Health Promotion (SLfG), various quality assurance instruments (e.g. reviewing the meal plan based on the DGE quality standards for catering in daycare facilities or conducting a survey of children and parents) are being used.

The aim is to adapt the full meals offered in the city's day-care centres in line with the latest findings in nutritional education. Healthy eating should not only be reflected in the menu, but should also be practised in every daycare centre.

"Pedagogical staff, employees in cooking and serving kitchens, but also parents can make a valuable contribution to this", emphasises Jeannette Kunert, responsible for daycare centres at the Office for Education, Youth and Social Affairs of the City of Radebeul, "because daycare food should taste good for EVERYONE!"

To officially launch the project, the kick-off workshop "So it tastes good for EVERYONE!" will be held on Wednesday, 19 June 2019 from 2 pm at the Radebeul City Library. The city of Radebeul is one of three model municipalities participating in the SLfG project "Communication structures and instruments for quality assurance in daycare and school catering", funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
