ALMA - In search of our cosmic origins
Event for young people and adults
In March 2013, ALMA, the world's largest radio astronomy facility, was officially put into operation. It allows today's astronomers to penetrate through the curtain of gas and dust to the birthplaces of galaxies. 400 years after Galileo, this opens a new chapter in our endeavour to understand the universe: we are searching in space for the building blocks of life on Earth and thus for our own cosmic origins.
In this extended version of the ESO show, we travel to the starry sky of the southern hemisphere, see the Southern Cross, next to the Centaur with the nearest star to us and experience the splendour of the southern Milky Way.
