Alfa biscuit factory, Gartenstraße 18

The Alfa biscuit factory was founded in 1875 by Erich Benkendorff as a factory for the production

biscuits, biscuits, wafers and marzipan.

After Benkendorff's death, Dr Richard Kell took over as the new owner. His descendants converted the company into a limited company in May 1910. In the same year, the "Alfa" trademark was created and entered in the commercial register a year later. The factory was later expanded and from then on also produced rusks and honey cakes on a large scale. The workforce grew to over 170 workers by 1925, but the company went bankrupt a few years later. The company premises were taken over by Dr Madaus & Co. in 1929.
