Dear people of Radebeul,
On 7 May 1945, 80 years ago now, the interpreter of the 1st Ukrainian Front, Ilya Bela Schulmann, called on the Radebeul city council to surrender the city without a fight. Responsible citizens campaigned in favour of this. This was the only way to prevent destruction and senseless fighting, which would have claimed many victims.
We want to commemorate this historic event on Saturday, 3 May 2025, 10.00 a.m. at the memorial for Ilja Bela Schulmann in Friedewald / Dippelsdorf Großenhainer Straße 71 and make a commitment to peace and international understanding. The Mayor of Radebeul, Mr Bert Wendsche, will speak words of remembrance.
You are cordially invited to attend. There will be an opportunity to lay flowers and wreaths.
