Study on feelings of safety and crime

28.02.2024

The Saxon Ministry of the Interior has announced that a survey on feelings of safety and crime will be launched in March as part of the »Safety and Crime in Germany« study.

The large district town of Radebeul is one of 16 Saxon municipalities to be surveyed by the opinion research institute ifas. The questionnaires will be sent by post.

People aged 16 and over are randomly selected to take part in the survey. The randomly selected participants can answer the questions in writing or online. Participation is voluntary. The website and the access code can be found on the cover sheet of the paper questionnaire sent out. A prepaid envelope is enclosed.

The aim of the population survey is to gain comprehensive insights into the development of crime, people's own experiences as victims, their sense of security and their experiences with the police.

The BKA works together with police-criminological research institutions in the federal states to compile and analyse the study. The Saxon Institute for Police and Security Research (SIPS) is involved in the study for Saxony. The Institute for Applied Social Sciences (infas) in Bonn was commissioned to carry out the survey.

The anonymity of all respondents is guaranteed. As is usual for representative population surveys, the contact details were randomly selected by the survey institute from the population registers of the towns and municipalities. The legal basis for such group information is §46 of the Federal Registration Act. Infas only transfers completely anonymous data - without names and addresses - to the BKA for analysis.
