The city of Radebeul is investing in better road infrastructure together with the federal and state governments and Deutsche Bahn. Construction work can now begin on the crossing-free road overpass Nach der Schiffsmühle. In future, the structure will span the railway facilities on the line from Leipzig to Dresden and the ThyssenKrupp AG siding between Friedrich-List-Straße and Meißner Straße in a flood-proof manner.

The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony took place today, Thursday 7 April 2022, in the presence of Dr Matthias Rößler (President of the Saxon State Parliament), Martin Dulig (State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport), Ralf Hänsel (District Administrator of Meißen), Bert Wendsche (Lord Mayor of Radebeul), Thomas Schubert (Lord Mayor of Coswig) and Ulrich Mölke (Head of the Dresden/Zwickau Networks Project Portfolio, DB Netz AG).

"The flood of the century in 2002 made us realise the importance of a flood-proof access route to the Radebeul-Naundorf and Coswig-Kötitz industrial estates," explained Lord Mayor Bert Wendsche. "This construction project is of enormous importance, especially for businesses," continues the Lord Mayor.

Once the construction site has been cleared, the existing railway crossings will be rebuilt by June. Following the construction of the road embankments, the

construction of the Meißner Straße intersection in the form of a roundabout will begin by September 2022. DB AG will work on the overhead lines over the summer. This will be followed by the actual construction of the new bridge. Following the construction of the new crossing on Friedrich-List-Straße in September 2023, the new road overpass is scheduled to go into operation in October 2023.

The project is being realised on site by the Hentschke/Teichmann consortium and the total costs amount to approx. 15 million euros.
