The expansion of Meißner Straße in Ost starts on 4 September

28.08.2023

On Monday, 4 September 2023, the complex construction project in the east of Radebeul will begin, in which the city of Radebeul, together with its partners Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG, Wasser Abwasser Betriebsgesellschaft Radebeul+Coswig mbH, Stadtwerke Elbtal GmbH and other media carriers, will fundamentally renew Meißner Straße over a length of around 780 m.
The implementation of the measure is urgently required as the road structure and track systems in the construction section are partially worn out after decades of intensive use and the traffic system no longer fulfils today's usage requirements. Visible signs of this are the sometimes drastic speed restrictions, especially for the tram.

The following measures will be implemented as part of the programme:

  • Fundamental expansion and redesign of the traffic system
  • Renewal of the tracks, carriageways, cycle traffic facilities, footpaths, overhead lines, street lighting and underground supply and disposal lines
  • Barrier-free expansion of the Hauptstraße and Zinzendorfstraße stops
  • Upgrading and redesigning the square at the junction of August-Bebel-Straße and renovation of the transformer house

The contract for the main lot, the road and track construction services as well as the main civil engineering services of the media carriers, was awarded to the bidding consortium EUROVIA Verkehrsbau GmbH / WOLFF & MÜLLER Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH und Co. KG with a total gross bid of around 13.9 million euros following a coordinated public Europe-wide tender. In this main lot alone, the fully self-financed share of the city of Radebeul amounts to around 4.2 million euros gross. The realisation of the measure, with a calculated total construction period until the end of 2024, will take place in 2 construction phases and requires the full closure of Meißner Straße for through traffic in the construction area.

The 1st construction phase should be completed by spring 2024 and covers the area from Schillerstraße (Radebeul-Ost railway loop) to August-Bebel-Straße. The Meißner Straße/August-Bebel-Straße/Zinzendorfstraße junction will be closed during this time. The landward diversion route will be via Kiefernstraße, Sidonienstraße, Pestalozzistraße and Schildenstraße. In the direction of Dresden, a diversion will be set up via Schildenstraße, Pestalozzistraße, Hauptstraße, Gartenstraße, Seestraße and Forststraße.
The second construction phase, which follows on from the first, begins west of August-Bebel-Straße and ends at Eduard-Bilz-Straße. The diversion route is planned in both directions via Zinzendorfstraße, Sidonienstraße, Pestalozzistraße and Schildenstraße. We ask for your understanding for the necessary construction work and the resulting disruption.
Up-to-date information on road closures and diversions can be found regularly on the city of Radebeul's website (www.radebeul.de), in the local daily press and the Radebeul citizen app.
If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the road construction department (e-mail: strassenbau@ radebeul.de).
The replacement service for line 4 runs as "EV4" from the "Forststraße" stop in Radebeul every ten minutes to Radebeul West or every 30 minutes to Weinböhla. During the construction period, tram line 4 coming from Dresden will terminate at the Radebeul Ost track loop; transfers to and from the replacement service will always take place at "Forststraße".
